Messengers from 118 CBGC churches met October 12-13 at Applewood Baptist Church, Wheat Ridge, for the 70th Annual Meeting of the convention. Over 300 people attended during the two days of celebrating God’s work through Colorado Baptists churches over the past 70 years to, ultimately, impact the nations with the Gospel.
On Monday night, the Rocky Mountain Foundation also celebrated 70 years of supporting and serving churches. The Rocky Mountain Campus of Gateway Seminary celebrated 30 years of preparing students for leadership and ministry. And the CBGC staff reported about the impact of partnership and collaboration among Colorado churches. Mike Proud, Executive Director, closed out Monday’s session with a look back at the past 70 years, and a challenge to continue working together to share the Gospel.
On Tuesday, Jeff Iorg, president of the SBC Executive Committee, Kevin Ezell, president of NAMB, and Todd Lafferty, vice-president of the IMB encouraged those attending to endure hardship, focus on the Gospel, and make the most of every opportunity to impact the world with the Gospel message. Later in the day, Evan Lenow, president of the ERLC, and Ryan Blackwell, president of Lifeway, joined Iorg, Ezell and Lafferty in a panel discussion led by Mike Proud to talk about the impact and importance of the Cooperative Program.
Messengers approved budgets for the CBGC, Rocky Mountain Foundation and Ponderosa, and elected committee and board members to fill vacancies. The following officers were elected to serve the convention for the next year: Pao Thao, pastor for First Hmong Baptist Church, Broomfield, was elected president; Lee Hall, pastor of Grace Christian Center, Denver, was elected as first vice-president; Adam Young, pastor of Valley Life Church, Fraser, was elected as second vice-president; and Kelly Gandy, Cross Fellowship, Black Forest/Palmer Park, was elected as recording secretary.
Videos of all Annual Meeting sessions and the Pastors’ Conference will be available soon.
