One Heart Change Leads to Another
By Andrew VanGorder,
Colorado Springs-This story is about Drew who came to Breathe Worship Center about two months ago. When Drew came to church the first time, he was very open and showed a desire for wanting to learn more about our faith. I gave the sermon and noticed many times that Drew was nodding his head in agreement. While I didn’t know it yet, the Lord was working mighty things inside of Drew’s heart.
The second time Drew came to Breathe, he listened intently, and perked up noticeably when I gave an invitation to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. As I stood at the front waiting for anyone to respond, Drew did. He came to the front of the room and told me that the week prior was his first week at any church…..ever. He said “This is my second week at church in my entire life and I know that I want to give my life to Christ.”
Drew accepted Christ on that day and quickly began inquiring about baptism. He just couldn’t stop asking , “When?” He continued to ask me every opportunity.
I told him that we would baptize him as soon as we had a few others who were also willing to be baptized. So Drew began talking to others who had shown interest in baptism. Drew told them he would like to be baptized soon. This brought about a few more decisions to be baptized.
We settled on Easter Sunday as the day of baptism. In the meantime, Drew began bringing his 3-year-old son to church with him. Drew’s ex-fiancée, Chandie (pronounced Shandy), began to notice a change in him. Soon, his ex-fiancée once again became his fiancée and he began inviting her to worship as well. Chandie had been a Wiccan for some time, but she eventually agreed to come to a small group and loved what she found.
Drew was so excited when Easter Sunday finally arrived. After I baptized Drew, I extended the invitation to anyone else who would like to give his or her life to Christ to do so and be baptized at that moment.
Chandie threw off her shoes, handed Drew the contents of her pockets, and jumped into the water fully clothed! She confessed Christ as her Savior and was baptized.
God is good!
Since then, Drew and Chandie have been talking about getting married. Both have started volunteering at the church regularly. Drew has been operating the video slides during Sunday services for the past month and has become an asset to Breathe’s ministry team.
